PESA Summer Camp
PESA Summer camp provides participants ages 7-18 with the opportunity to gain practical skills through project based learning, allowing them to learn to navigate living off the grid.
Social-Emotional learning and healthy communication skills are emphasized throughout the camp experience, while campers create functional, environmentally sustainable projects.

At PESA camp, we believe that future forward means community driven innovation that works with nature. Our camper projects and camp philosophies are in alignment with permaculture and environmentally sustainable practices. Our campers participate in community dialogue that encourages a growth mindset, advancing their social and emotional quotients.
Campers will be overseen by camp counselors who are FBI and BCI background checked. Counselors are CPR and First Aid certified and many are certified public school teachers. The camp counselors are managed by the camp Director who runs the day to day operations.
PESA (Practical Earth Skills Academy) Summer Camp is headed by Founder, Christine Annarino. Christine has over fifteen years of experience working in camp and educational settings with children of all ages. She is a licensed teacher with degrees from Ohio State, Antioch, and Miami Universities. Her time as a Naturalist at the Ecology Institute at Glen Helen in Yellow Springs, Ohio and work with community based organizations in Southern and Central Ohio have provided the inspiration to create PESA.

At PESA Summer Camp, we equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in natural environments and make a positive impact on the planet. Our passionate educators and learners provide a unique educational summer camp experience designed to enhance intellectual and emotional growth.
Camp Hoop House: Ages 7-11

Participants will learn how to construct a functional hoop house that will be used to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs onsite

Food and permaculture education, including math and science standards

Collaborative communication highlighted throughout the process
RULES & REQUIREMENTS:
PESA Camp welcomes campers ages 7-18 who have an interest in learning practical skills that will allow them to grow food, work with animals, access potable water, learn how to harness renewable energy and build structures for housing; environmentally sustainable living. Campers must be able to attend to their own bathroom needs.
To be successful at PESA Camp, campers should:

Have the desire/be able to operate basic hand tools

Be comfortable outside for periods of 2 hours at a time (shelter provided for meals and inclement weather)

Be open to new ideas and willing have a dialog with others

Be comfortable eating family style and using a public bathroom (inside a building)
MEALS:
A family style, vegetarian lunch will be provided to all campers each day. Access to healthy snacks and water will be available. Campers who have food allergies must indicate what allergies they have on the medical form during registration.
Camp Solar Generation: Ages 12-18

Participants will engage in learning how to build a usable solar generator able to charge their cell phones

Electrical engineering and renewable energy education will be provided before participants constructed with an emphasis on safety

Socratic seminar and advanced communication skills geared towards solution finding will be highlighted throughout the process
TRANSPORTATION:
PESA Camp does not provide transportation to or from camp. Campers may arrive up to 30 minutes early (8:30 am) and may stay up to 30 minutes after camp ends for the day (3:30).An additional 50$ charge will occur for each late event and must be paid by the end of the camp week. Parents and guardians must show an I.D. upon drop off and pick up of their child and the I.D. must match the approved names on file for child pick up.
DISCRIMINATION POLICY:
PESA Camp has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to hateful speech or actions, especially if it relates to race, sex, sexual orientation, country of origin, nationality, or religion. Any camper caught using hate speech or participating in action based in hate will be asked to leave the camp and will not receive a refund.

Cancellations:
If a camper's attendance must be canceled prior to the start of the camp, the deposit is non-refundable. Any amount paid above the deposit will be refunded to those who notify us in writing at least 14 days prior to the Monday of their camp session. No refunds will be made to those who cancel after this time frame.
